Many consumers today are opting for non-toxic, natural therapies when caring for themselves, lessening their use of toxic synthetic medications. Essential oils, for instance, have been rediscovered after being used to achieve or maintain wellness for centuries. The first recorded use of medicinal oils was by the ancient Egyptians. Then, as now, essential oils were used in topical applications, soothing baths, aromatherapy settings, and for relief from numerous other dis- orders and symptoms.
Essential oils are derived from the distillation of organic leaves, stems, flowers, bark, and plant roots. They can affect the body’s physiological system directly or indirectly. For example, a drop of a proprietary blend used topically to promote relaxation may help anxiety, panic, and promote restful sleep.
Lymphatic massage is a common therapeutic practice for cancer patients and others with impaired lymphatic drainage. The application of specific essential oil blends triggers the body’s healing processes by stimulating blood and lymph to flow, benefits that also lead to reduced pain and inflammation.
Essential oils for therapeutic uses should be used exactly as recommended because they can cause severe irritation otherwise. They are diluted within a carrier oil to be used topically in most cases.
During my 40 year career as a holistic practitioner and founder of clinics both in the U.S. and the U.K., I used numerous techniques and healing modalities before dedicating my professional focus to the formulation of medicinal therapeutic essential oils. One of the most powerful tools in my arsenal, essential oils are used extensively throughout Europe and Asia and are increasingly used in both holistic and more traditional western medical settings. Today you can find aromatherapists working alongside physicians in hospitals and clinics, coming together to advance complementary medicine by employing the holistic principle: First, do no harm.
I founded Elizabeth Essentials 13 years ago to assist in this process here in the United States. It is my vision to have physicians and therapists working alongside each other using essential oil remedies in their wellness protocols for clients and patients.
The Elizabeth’s Essentials complete line of essential oil blends are designed to address numerous conditions both chronic and acute. It is our intention to support your health and well-being and we encourage you to call us, communicate with your holistically-aware health care professional, or speak with the staff at Marlene’s, where the staff is trained to answer questions about essential oils.
Education is power. Here’s to health!
